SUMMARY:EGO/UG2 Webinar: Student run glider lab
DESCRIPTION:EGO are hosting an upcoming webinar on March 13 ( 5-6 PM UTC/1 – 2 PM ET). Please see details below:Join: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85153697918?pwd=8yElabNtcuaPj98kVwLZuFk0Fy4ToP.1\nTitle: The University of Washington Student Seaglider Center: The design and impact of a student-run lab \nSummary: Established in 2022\, the University of Washington’s Student Seaglider Center (SSC) is a student-run lab where students manage and use a fleet of Seagliders to conduct student-directed oceanographic research. Students service\, test\, and ballast Seagliders\, plan dive missions\, pilot Seagliders\, and analyze data to address student-defined scientific objectives. Through this program\, students have worked with professional mentors to conduct research both locally and globally: studying circulation patterns in Puget Sound\, Washington State\, USA and effects of tropical instability waves in the Equatorial Pacific. By participating in the SSC\, students gain real-world experience conducting oceanographic research\, develop essential skills and experience for future careers\, and make meaningful contributions to the field of oceanography. We will share the outcomes of the design and implementation of this program to support both research and education. \nPresenters:\nSasha Seroy\, PhD – Assistant Teaching Professor & Ocean Technology Program Director\nSchool of Oceanography\, University of Washington \nLydia Kelley- Undergraduate Student School of Oceanography\, University of Washington \nVictoria DeJong – Undergraduate Student School of Oceanography\, University of Washington

SUMMARY:UG2 Webinar - World Ocean Database
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the first UG2 webinar of 2025: World Ocean Database Seminar!  \nAlexey Mishonov (Associate Research Scientist University of Maryland – Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) and NOAA – National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI))\, will be presenting a seminar on The World Ocean Database (WOD) and running through some practical examples with the audience. \nWOD is the world’s largest collection of uniformly formatted\, quality controlled\, publicly available ocean profile data. It is a powerful tool for oceanographic\, climatic\, and environmental research\, and the end result of more than 20 years of coordinated efforts to incorporate data from institutions\, agencies\, individual researchers\, and data recovery initiatives into a single database. WOD data spans from Captain Cook’s 1772 voyage to the contemporary Argo/Gliders period\, making it a valuable resource for long term and historical ocean climate analysis. In this communication\, the most recent release of WOD23 will be introduced and increase the glider data holding demonstrated with comparison to our previous presentation at the UG2 workshop in 2022. Some aspects of the data extraction techniques will be demonstrated. \nJoin us!

SUMMARY:Uncrewed Maritime Systems (UMS) Certificate Programs (UMS Certificate Program - Tier 1)
DESCRIPTION:UMS Certificate Program – Tier 1\nNext Course Delivery: October 14 – November 15\, 2024 \n\nClass size is limited to 15 students.\nApplications will be considered on a first-come\, first-served basis.\nApplication deadline: October 7\, 2024 | 4:00 p.m. (CDT)\nApplicants are urged to submit transcript and immunization records showing two MMR dates (or documentation of a positive titer test) by the  application deadline.\nIf you have questions email Carl Szczechowski.\n\n  \nUncrewed vehicles are increasingly involved in routine\, innovative\, and emergency data collection in the marine environment yet few curricula exist worldwide which provide comprehensive instruction in the field of uncrewed maritime systems. The UMS Certificate Programs will provide students with a working knowledge concerning the operation of a variety of uncrewed maritime systems and help them to understand the environment in which the systems operate and how that environment factors into decisions and mission planning. \nIf you are interested in the UMS Certificate Programs please send an email to the UMS Program Coordinator or call 228.236.6572.
